Venue and Transportation

The venue for the workshop is Teaching rooms 1 and 2, Level 20, 360 Collins Street, City Campus La Trobe University (this is the very centre of downtown Melbourne: please see the map above or click here; please note, this is NOT the main campus of La Trobe University!). To travel on public transport in Melbourne you need the Myki card which can be purchased at the airport or on any manned train station for $6 and topped up with some money from a machine on trams and on train stations. The timetables and the route maps of public transport can be found here. Public transport is free within the city square: you can travel on the trams without a Myki card. To get from the airport to the City you can catch either a taxi ($60-70) or the Sky bus ($18 from the airport to Southern Cross Station; the tickets can be purchased at the Sky Bus stop outside the airport).

There is no registration fee. But please register below even if you are not planning to give a talk. The registration closes on December 11. The deadline for abstract submission is December 5.

There will be one-hour talks (55 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions) and half-hour talks (25 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions). Depending on the numbers, we may also have some number of shorter talks.

Workshop dinner

We will have the workshop dinner, at 6pm on Wednesday December 21, in the Function room of The Standard Hotel, 293 Fitzroy St, Fitzroy. The Standard Hotel is about 35 minute walk from the conference venue. We will collect $15-$30 from the participants attending the dinner.

Poster

Please printout the workshop poster and display it in your university.

Program

The program can be found here.

Support

Students and early career researchers from AMSI member universities without access to a suitable research grant or other source of funding may apply to their Head of Department or Head of Discipline for subsidy of travel, accommodation and registration fee out of the departmental travel allowance. Please consult the AMSI travel account procedure for further details, and please let Yuri Nikolayevsky know if you are interested in this option.

Accommodation

We are not generally providing the accommodation. The participants may consider booking their accommodation in the City (for example in Quest Hotels or in Ibis), it is beautiful and it is close to the conference venue. At this time of the year you may expect around $180 per night. There could be a cheaper option available at the residential services at the main La Trobe campus in Bundoora (but note it takes about 40 minutes by public transport to get from there to the City). Please let Stacey Mendan know if you are interested, before November 15.
